Psychoteraphy/Counseling
We offer counseling to children, adolescents, families, and adults. We work with you to create a plan and support you through the process of change and growth.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The idea of therapy is to help children and adults work through their challenges. We focus on a Cognitive Behavioral Approach while always keeping the client’s needs at the forefront of treatment.
The basis of CBT is to address the maladaptive thoughts that trigger certain feelings and cause to react in a certain way that has proven unhelpful to the person.
Through a variety of cognitive and behavioral techniques, we help the child or adult start to understand their thought process and patterns so they can start to shift on their own. This shift will inevitably create a change in their mood and the way they interact in their daily lives.

OUR PROCESS
For Children or Adolescents:
1. Intake Meeting with Parents
An initial intake with the caregiver allows the clinician to get a better understanding of the symptoms and challenges the child is currently facing.
2. Session with Child
Sessions with the children are usually weekly and can incorporate the parents depending on age and needs. We focus on the current problems and concerns and develop a treatment plan based on the goals co-created in therapy.
3. Parent Sessions
Throughout the therapy process it is crucial for parents to have their own sessions to understand their child’s progress and learn how to best support their child at home and in school.
4. Teacher/ School Conference
If necessary we can set up a meeting with the school to help explain and support the child’s emotional and social needs in school.
5. Termination
The goal of therapy is to help the client learn effective coping skills and how to implement them, so they no longer need to rely on the weekly guidance and support of the counselor. Our goal is to get you there!
Termination of therapy is determined when goals have been met, and symptoms have reduced enough that the client no longer needs weekly therapeutic support.
Clients are always welcome to return for additional sessions if needed.
6. Group Sessions
Group sessions are tailored to focus on a specific topic or concern, such as anxiety, behavior, social skills. They are closed groups meaning they have a specific start and end date and usually last 6-8 weeks, with sessions of 75 minutes each. During the group sessions clients are encouraged to share challenges and accomplishments they have made in the topic area. The counselor guides the group through psychoeducation, coping skills and challenging maladaptive beliefs. Many groups work with a specific book that includes research based findings on the topic. We also incorporate book recommendations and videos to support learning about the topic of concern.
